Dear Brothers,

Re.:Heartfelt condolences

Many greetings from Rome! It is with great sorrow that we woke up like you this night to the sad news of murder of your Rector, Fr. Martin ADDAI. The shockwaves are still making their way through out the entire Society. The many emails and phone calls received so far, testify to the quality of the man we have all lost.

Martin will be remembered for his dedication and commitment to the Society's mission in different capacities over his missionary life in Malawi, Moçambique, Ghana and now in Nairobi where his blood has been shed. He has marked a lot of people and we will all miss him deeply.

As recently as yesterday, the Gospel invited us to look at the violence in our lives and to ask ourselves the question: "what is that saying to us?" Unfortunately, we have no answers. Together with you, we offer our brother to the Lord's mercy. We pray for him, for his family, for his friends and for you with whom he has shared the last precious years of his life. May the good things we have always admired secretly or openly about him, take root more deeply down in our heart and bear fruit in the community and in our missionary commitments.

Your chapel, the Martyrs of Africa, has one more patron saint to intercede for you and for all of us as we journey on our way to the Life Martin is already sharing with God.

On behalf of the Superior General, Fr. Gerard CHABANON, the entire General Council, the Secretary for Initial Formation and the Generalate community, we say pole sana. Accept our heart felt condolences and be sure of our prayers and spiritual presence to you in these trying moments. The Lord, who is Life and Resurrection, is our strength. In him we put our trust.

Fraternally,

Richard Kuuia BAAWOBR, m.afr.
